The John Stone Park Community Project committee was formed to take action over the lack of maintenance / untidiness and general poor standard of playground / recreational equipment within the park.
Since the project was started many improvements have been made.
Parkland maintenance has improved, basketball court and bmx track upgrades have been done.
Graffiti has been swiftly removed, extra bins installed to curb the previous littering issues.
Fixed the broken footpaths / walkways.
Removal of dead / rotting trees and the cutting back excess branches from trees.
Excessively long grass areas were cut back and are now being maintained.
Native garden beds have been introduced.
A dog agility area was installed after funding was kindly donated by a mystery person who won a Purina grant, who chose Stratton as their preferred suburb.
A water tap / trough was installed and garden beds introduced.
Upgrades to the playground area should be done soon according to standards and expiration dates of the current equipment. Upgrades to the lighting was an ongoing issue of concern for residents for several years. After perseverance our hard work has paid off and the lights were installed in March 2017..
Current projects are the water tank artwork to combat graffiti issues and proposing a nature play / fitness area.
